What Do Jellybeans Have to Do With Your Energy?

Have you ever thought about how you could tune into your energy level as a way to stay in the zone?

Being aware of how we get our energy and then expend our energy is a big part of staying in the zone. If you’re feeling drained and a bit testy at times, you may want to think about how you can recharge in a way that works for you.

So how do we get our energy?

If you’re someone who prefers to be inward focused and enjoys quiet and time to think, then plan pockets of your day to have that inner reflection.On the other hand if you’re more outward focused and prefer that people interaction as a way to refuel, then spending a day locked in your office is not your best option.

I’m certified in Myers Briggs® and use this tool in my individual and group coaching. One trainer I know has a great way to illustrate these to two dichotomies of Introversion and Extraversion.

Take two jars ─ one is filled with jelly beans and the other is empty.

People who prefer Introversion or that inward focus, typically start off the day with a full jar of jelly beans. As they go about their day, connecting with people, they are essentially giving away the jelly beans, depleting their energy source.

People who prefer Extroversion, or that outward focus, typically start off with an empty jar. They need to seek out those interactions with people as a way to fill their jar and source of energy.
