Workshop:

Novel Writing: The Art of Blending Fact, Fiction and Fantasy

As an author, Karen Kelloway takes both a linear and lyrical approach to her writing.  In this workshop Karen will share her tips on how she achieves a balance of realism while maintaining the mystique of the imaginary or unknown.

 Specifically, Karen will cover:

  • The three anchors that shaped her latest novel, Keepers of the Pact.
  • The three Rs that will help you create more believable stories
  • The efforts made to weave in authentic Indigenous elements.

In this interactive session, participants will do a fun two-part writing activity to experience how to strengthen their fictional story through fact-checking and flow.

Whether you are a beginner or seasoned pro, this two-hour workshop has something for everyone!

Keynote topic:
Leadership Lessons I Learned from Writing Fiction:

#1 Put Yourself in the Scene!

Joseph Campbell says to ‘follow your bliss’. He also created a formula that fictions writers use called a Hero’s Journey.

Karen is endlessly curious about how professionals have applied the classic story elements of a hero’s journey to their chosen career path — how they launched their careers, what obstacles they faced along the way and their resulting lessons learned that help them live and leave a meaningful legacy.

In this keynote, Karen will share lessons she’s learned as both a Career Strategist working within organizations and as an author shaping and creating strong fictional characters, that are relevant to both individual and corporate career paths.

Ready to put yourself in the scene?

This 20 minute keynote is best suited for professional development conferences and associations.
