MY
PERSONAL
JOURNEY
Trust is the foundation of a nurturing and transformative coaching partnership. Breaking through your perceived limitations takes courage, honesty and a willingness to share.
Here's my own, very personal story of how I found my calling. I hope something in it resonates with you.
I spent my first two years out of university in Whistler, BC. I worked at a ski school, did PR for a ski magazine as well as one of the ski resorts. A passionate and dedicated writer, I wrote articles for the local newspaper and tourist magazine. I was able to channel what felt at the time like unbounded creative energy into doing things I love. But after two years, I felt like I 'should be looking for a real job' and after a quick stint at a Vancouver PR agency, moved back to Atlantic Canada and continued working in the field of public relations.

Seven years later, I returned to Whistler for a conference. I was at a crossroads in my career. I was frustrated with my work environment and I no longer felt motivated by my work. The negatives in my professional life were outweighing the positives.
Then I had what I call my Alta Lake moment. The theme of the conference was work-life balance. I was sitting in a room full of 300 other PR professionals when a certified business coach took the stage to talk about this emerging profession. I got goose bumps. I was so excited. I turned to my colleague and whispered this is what I'm meant to do! I couldn't believe that she wasn't having the same reaction.
The next morning I went for a run down a path I used to jog many mornings seven years before. I ended up sitting cross-legged on the end of the wharf at Alta Lake. The sun just beginning to rise over the snow-capped mountains and I had only a mother and her baby ducks to keep me company. In that moment I knew I was ready for something new. In that moment I realized that PR was no longer enough of a creative outlet. It was no longer my passion. It was time to move on to something where I could not only create more harmony, passion and fulfillment in my own life, but in the lives of others as well. In that moment, I knew exactly where I was going.
